Built in 1857, it was set up with the royal permission of Isabel II, who granted it so that it could be built inside the Cortadura bastion. It is renowned for being the bullring where the bullfighting season begins in Spain, an event included in the Iberian Bull Fair, a festival declared to be of regional tourist interest which attracts thousands of people each year from all parts of Spain and Portugal.
