The Monastery of San Juan de Dios or La Concepción: it dates from 1601. It was occupied in 1631 as a convent, but the Restoration War transformed it into a Royal Military Hospital until Olivenza was no longer a stronghold in 1868. It currently houses the Visitor Reception Centre of the Alqueva Natural Theme Park.
The building, located in one of the nine bastions of Olivenza, represents one of the main samples of religious and service architecture of the town.
Recently refurbished it has collected so friendly and efficient, one of the most emblematic architectural spaces of Olivenza, providing attractive content through an architectural intervention that combines tradition and modernity.
The visit to the Visitors Reception Centre, located in several rooms of the Monastery of San Juan de Dios and in the outdoor areas of the bastion, offers the possibility of an interpretative tour of the Alqueva Natural Theme Park.
We invite you to walk around the Monastery of San Juan de Dios to discover the culture and heritage of two neighboring countries.
A whole host of sensations for the children, families, groups and individuals who come to the Alqueva Natural Theme Park to enjoy a magical and unforgettable experience.
